I finished this book in one sitting, it was that interesting and engaging. It's a debatable subject, but the author makes it seem reasonable and feasible. The author clearly did a great deal of research making this book seem all that more creditable.

The main character suffers from a mental illness, schizophrenia. Just like the rest of us, he is questioning God and his word. Hence the title, God on Trial. Being schizophrenic seems like a lot emotional up's and down's, and always questioning what's real and not real.

You'll be taken on a journey where what's real and not real, is not always apparent or obvious. Bouncing back and forth between the paranoia hallucinations, and what's perceived as reality, you'll get to know the main characters on a very personal level.

I found this to be a very entertaining read that was extremely eye opening. The book is controversial in a great way, it makes you think. The cover is interesting and makes me curious as to what is contained inside the book. There were no spelling or grammar errors that I saw. I give this book 5/5.

What is real and what is not real… Sometimes, as the author Sabri Bebawi writes, the line between real or not, can be blurry. Within the context of putting God on trial for being the instigator of much suffering, the author explores the disturbed inner thoughts of the mentally unwell main character. This unique and very emotive story takes the reader on a journey where what’s real is not always obvious and what’s not real becomes possible.

I mean nothing hurtful about the following comment, especially to those who do suffer from, or know others that suffer from a mental health disease or condition, but this book makes me so thankful that I am normal. Well… that’s what I keep telling myself. It is a credit to the author that this ‘other’ world, the world of the mentally unwell, was conveyed and brought to life in such a realistic and fascinating way. What the main character goes through, despite being fueled by paranoia and hallucinations, is often stranger than fiction but also on a human level disturbingly close to home. Some readers will get this more than others.

Overall an interesting, highly unique read that made me question both my own inner workings and the mind-sets and perspectives of others.
The memory of a childhood illness takes the main character back to his remembrances of being raised in a Coptic family five decades before. As an adult he begins to experience involuntary muscle spasms, accompanied by visions of phantasms, and other obsessions. At this point the novel is reminiscent of the best writing of Kafka and Dostoevsky as the man grasps for sanity. He begins to question the motives of God, and goes through the various stages of putting ‘God on Trial’—The Complaint—The Brief—the investigation and more…deftly using quotes from well-chosen books, including of course the Bible. The novel is unique, sometimes disconcerting as we witness the suffering of an intelligent man in the midst of mania and delusion. An intricate captivating story set in exotic locations…the reader is left to make his or her own decisions on the verdict. Five Stars!
Controversial yet compelling in a sweeping fashion that will absolutely engulf you and leave you wanting more. In short this is a short story of fiction that speaks to the harmful effects of schizophrenia on the brain. It is so powerful, as is the case with the main character that our Lord God was put on Trial for all of the pain and hurt caused every day on our planet earth.

How can “God on Trial” be best described? The characters are well developed the storyline is captivating and original. While I do not agree with some of the point mentioned in the book, I will say that some of the topics for discussion are on track and very believable. More oft then not I found myself going back and forth between the what is real and what is not. Simply put God on Trial is in call all on its own developed by a talented Author whose narrative is breathtaking.

As with all of my reviews the words that best describe this book are Compelling, Intriguing, Powerful, Original, Enlightening, and in a class all on its own.

Author Sabri Bebawi gets 5 Stars for this amazing read! I truly hope a sequel is made soon as it left me wanting more of this Short Fiction Masterpiece.
The subject matter sounds controversial and blasphemous, which drew my attention. In the end, though, God on Trial seems mostly to be an examination of a man suffering from mental illness. The main character links his troubles in life to religion, due to an intense fear of many religious or God-linked items when he was younger. As the main character sinks deeper into his delusions, a gulf begins to form between him and his friends and family.

The book generally follows a chronological order, but it slips in flashbacks or tidbits of information as necessary. The main character has hallucinations/visions of his childhood, for instance. It's not hard to follow, although the narrative plays with making us believe that what's an illusion is real and vice versa, and I felt it made the story more interesting overall. The writing is consistent and gripping, and I wasn't shocked out of the story by typos or errors.

The book is both an examination on religion, testing beliefs in a loving God amidst suffering, but it is also a great look at schizophrenia. Some of the most vile deeds of mankind, after all, have resulted from undiagnosed and untreated mental illnesses. The author seems to be well versed in several religions, as the main character pulls on evidence from several religion's doctrines to compile his case against God.

The story was short enough to be finished in a single sitting, but was lengthier than many other short stories I've read. A good length, it got a lot of details in without overstaying its welcome. An intriguing and entertaining read that I'd recommend for anyone.
