Like other reviewers, I too wonder what happened to the Rachel Gibson of old. I can't put a finger on what exactly the missing element is in her latest books, I can only say the characters are very lackluster and underdeveloped. But why is that? The books are all about the same length, so it isn't that she didn't have enough time. She used to be able to create rich, fully fleshed out characters that we could all relate to emotionally. Her books practically oozed chemistry, romance, charm, and wit. So what happened?! I can only think she's fallen into the same trap as many of my other favorite authors before her. After about twenty years of writing they lose it. I don't know if they just burn out or run out of ideas. Rachel Gibson has been writing the very same type of books since the early nineties. Maybe what was inspiring in her twenties isn't so much in her forties. Maybe she needs to branch out into a new genre to keep herself fresh. Whatever the case, I really hate to add her to my growing list of authors I don't read anymore. All that being said, I still gave the book three stars. It was an okay book. And, let's face it, Rachel Gibson's worst books are still better than a lot of the tripe that passes for contemporary romance these days. It's just that she's set the bar high so we expect more from her. The characters and plotline of this story lacked depth and substance and therefore we don't feel a lot of chemistry between H/ h. There were still some entertaining and funny moments and the book was a fast read. I can see that she's setting up Spence (the hero's brother) to have his own book and I'll probably go ahead and read it, but this one won't be on my reread list as most of her old ones are.

Just Kiss Me edition by Rachel Gibson Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
extremely disappointed. Rachel Gibson's early books featured quirky characters and were funny and intelligent. Not the later ones, and I am about to give up on her… Apparently there was no editor (lots of grammatical mistakes) and no proof reader (not just typos but completely wrong word usage).
I generally like Rachel Gibson's books, but this one was less fun that most with a heroine that was hard to connect with. Overall this title was mostly fine - nothing special - but what tipped the scales for me was the last third of the book. It's normal for the H and h to have a fight/misunderstanding/whatever that keeps them apart towards the end of a romance, but there is a fine line between what is surmountable and forgivable and what is not. I went from being a little annoyed with both the main characters to being completely turned off by Vivien. Her actions ruined the book for me, they dragged on for much too long, and I found the resolution to them unsatisfying. Henry deserved better. All in all a very frustrating read.
I've read and loved many of Rachel Gibson's books, but this one just didn't quite cut it for me. The story just fell a bit flat, in my opinion. There were some romantic moments and humor, but it just didn't achieve the level of her trademark style. I am not turned off this author, and will continue to seek out her books in the future.
I WANTED to love this book like I love her books of the past. The hockey series, the writers series, etc. were FANTASTIC. I've re-read those books so many times I've lost count. Seriously. Rachel Gibson is my favorite author! I anxiously awaited the arrival of this book...I'm very sad to be disappointed. In my opinion, this is the worst one she's written, and I'm very sorry to say that. If you're just starting out with this author, read "True Confessions " or "True Love and Other Disasters " or anything else! Sorry Rachel, I do love you. But this book is not up to your usual standard.
I've been a Rachel Gibson fan for years. I enjoy the give and take between her characters and the interaction with a variety of supporting players. The characters in this outing are flat, uninspiring and rather self-centered. Frankly, it seems as though someone else wrote this book or perhaps Ms Gibson was pressured to turn in something to her publisher regardless of quality. The most distracting issues for me though were the number of misspellings, grammatical errors and what seems to be lack of good editing. These are things that have not been an issue in her past works. Sadly, perhaps, one of my favorite authors has hit a wall as far as her writing. In good conscience I am unable to recommend this book.
My days of pre-ordering Rachel's books are officially over. I just feel like I'm reading the same book and the same phrases--bless her heart--over and over. I don't think anyone does character descriptions like she does, but for a large portion of this book i felt like that was all we were getting and after so many books the descriptions sound very similar. The story was fairly predictable--as soon as Noonie told Henry to keep Spencer away from Vivian I knew why. The journal pages of a younger Vivian were cute. However, overall, the story was lacking in character interaction and loaded with description and introspection.
There was a time I would wait excitedly anticipating a Rachel Gibson new release then stay up all night reading it.
Just kiss me is another miss for the author. A cute short story that lacks warmth, character development and story depth.
Read the first 5 books written by this author, and forget this one.
